Hello My Friends! (this one is especially for the ladies – but I wonder what you guys think of this too?)
Last post for the day (and WEEKEND!). Promise! I’m going to take a break from posting this weekend and leave you all in peace without my interruptions :).
But before that, I just heard this song this morning and had to share it. It touched me deeper than a song has in a long time. And the video!!! Oh Colbie – you hit it OUT OF THE PARK with this one. This should be mandatory “start your day” inspiration for every young girl, teenager, new mom, wife, sister, middle-aged woman, senior-aged woman, fat, skinny, tall, short, no matter where you are in life and what battle you are fighting right now…. Brought me to tears. Why do we do this to ourselves as women? Love yourself ladies! You don’t have to try so hard. You are all beautiful!
“Try” (by Colbie Cailat)
Put your make up on
Get your nails done
Curl your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim
So they like you. Do they like you?
Get your sexy on
Don’t be shy, girl
Take it off
This is what you want, to belong
So they like you. Do you like you?
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
Oh
Get your shopping on,
At the mall,
Max your credit cards
You don’t have to choose,
Buy it all
So they like you. Do they like you?
Wait a second,
Why should you care, what they think of you
When you’re all alone, by yourself
Do you like you? Do you like you?
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to bend until you break
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
No
Oh
You don’t have to try so hard
You don’t have to give it all away
You just have to get up, get up, get up, get up
You don’t have to change a single thing
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try, try, try, try
You don’t have to try
You don’t have to try
Take your make up off
Let your hair down
Take a breath
Look into the mirror, at yourself
Don’t you like you?
Cause I like you.
Thanks Colbie! I like YOU!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Of course it’s fine, Claire! I’m thrilled you want to share it. I wish every woman would put it on their Facebook page and everywhere for girls and women everywhere to see :). I’m glad you enjoyed it and were touched by it. I can certainly take no credit, but I’m so glad to share it 🙂

Jodi, I don’t remember the pressure to be so perfect when i was a girl…back in the 70s….when dinosaurs walked the earth. Seems so much harder now. Anyway, I love this song so much….totally with you on this. (As I’m typing this I see you are looking at my silly sign post!) Another GREAT post, Jodi dear. Have a great weekend!!!

I agree – the pressures were not as difficult then – and hey – I was back there with you in the dinosaur days too! I find myself wearing less and less makeup (is it laziness or embracing not trying so hard??!! 🙂 ) Anyway – this song really touched a chord with me. I can’t tell you how many times I listened to it today. Thank you for always being my best supporter! (And I LOVED the signs!!!) 🙂 xo

I am doing exactly the same thing, Jodi. It was part of the reason I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago…not that I would EVER in a million years urge anybody else to do it…..but I wanted to explore my “authenticity.” Sound weird? I know. If I had hated it, I would have gone right back to expensive blond highlights but I did like it and my husband does too. That’s part of it too, when you are one of the lucky ones with a husband that thinks you’re cuuuute!

You always make me smile! I think you are one of the lucky ones whose hair silvered so beautifully. My grandma died with “salt and pepper” hair as she called it. I think mine is like that – with grey sideburns – not nearly as attractive as yours is. I think you look cuuuuuute!

Ahhh, thank you. The message of this post is such a good one; we should give each other permission to be our authentic selves, colored hair or not, as you so aptly write about here. Off my podium now. Enjoy your blogless weekend but expect you to be back on the stick next week!
