Brown Paper Packages tied up with String

…these are a few of my favorite things…

I kept my wrapping simple this year – brown paper packages tied up with string…

and plenty of gift bags, which saved a lot of time!

I like to have lots of packages to give even if it is just something small or the traditional socks and boxers 🙂

And I would like to put the gifts under the tree, but little Mr. Mikey cannot be trusted these days – especially if I leave him alone in the house for any length of time (he already ate half of a Yankee peppermint-scented candle that was in a zippered gift pouch in a pile to be wrapped in my home office…. Seriously – a dog who likes peppermint!?!!?  And can unzipper a cloth bag to get to it!)

So the gifts are all stacked in my office, and the office door remains CLOSED!

One year Mikey ate an entire pound of Chocolate Peanut Butter Meltaways that was in a box wrapped in cellophane and then gift wrapped and was in the middle of a pile of gifts under the tree.  No other boxes were disrupted somehow, but the entire box of candy was G-O-N-E!  And though chocolate is supposed to be “poison” to dogs, Mike had a bit of a tummy ache and slugged around for a few hours, but was no worse for wear.  Oh Mikey!

Anyway – the package is half the fun.  Right?

Well – I ran out of bags and had some special little gifts left to wrap that are odd shaped, so I found this cute little easy-to-make gift bag on Pootles Papercraft’s YouTube channel.

Sam does great tutorials on all kinds of little gift bags and boxes if you want to check her out.  And her accent is so fun to listen to also!  I used StampinUp’s Holiday Craft Paper (Under the Tree DSP), the Festival of Trees Stamp and Punch, and a bit of jute string to tie it closed.

Hope you are enjoying doing some of YOUR “favorite things!

“The Sound of Music” was my Mother-in-Law’s favorite movie of all. Remembering her fondly, and thankful for the best gift she ever game me – her son – my Merv. ❤

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

    • Oh Albert – you are so sweet to defend Mikey’s good intentions! You’ve got a point, but sadly it did not help the breath situation! I’m glad you and the Lady like the packages. Mikey is waiting for Santa to fill his stocking, and is trying VERY hard to be good. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  2. LOVE! I said YES at the opening. =) (Pun intended, talking about gifts.) I’m not good with my hands like you and so hate wrapping. But gift bags are getting pricier, even at the dollar store. The brown works! And kids can decorate them, too – well, if we’ll let ’em mess ’em up LOL. That’s funny Mr. M can’t be trusted. Those bags at the bottom are amazing. I just don’t have the time, and refuse to carve it out. =)

    Have a wonderful week, Jodi.

  3. Thanks Diana! I say let the kids mess ’em up! They grow up too fast, and there is plenty of time for neat and tidy later! 🙂 I admire your choosing what you want and have time to do! Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have the desire or time either to fuss with making cute little paper bags that just get tossed. 🙂

  4. Oh, these packages are so sweet! I love the simplicity of them. If I were at your home, and there was a package of PB Meltaways under the tree hidden amongst other gifts, I would be like Mikey and find them! Hugs to you:)

  6. I do love the packages and it’s such a waste buying expensive wrapping paper only to be torn to shreds. Tsk tsk Mike eating candles?? I had to hard the Easter eggs and chocolate rabbits, putting them out early morning, as our old girl Tarsh ate one large bunny one morning. She was a tad sluggish afterwards too. Merry Christmas to you and Merv 🎁🎄🎅 xx

  7. We had a beagle named Barney who ate a bag of chocolate, then a container of tums in the same day. Pretty smart if you ask me! One of my rescues thinks candy canes are the BEST thing on the planet. She carefully licks it down to nothing then chews it. She also likes ginger candy (good for the human tummy but that can’t be good for her) and yesterday caught her with a honey lemon coughdrop. She also loves LOVES LOVES tissue and q-tips. So, due to the cold she has been in drop and tissue heaven no matter how careful I am. Silly weird girl 🙂

  8. HI Jodi,

I was wondering if it would be ok to use your picture of your packages in a presentation I’m giving? even though the audience will only be a few people I usually only use Creative Commons licensed images to ensure anybody viewing the slides can see who took the photo and that I have permission to use it.

    Cheers
