Are you ready for another AMAZING Chicken Recipe?!?!
(My youngest son recently commented: “too much painting – not enough cooking on the blog!”)
So… since he and I LOVE chicken for dinner….
and he requested this…
and our oldest son and our daughter-in-law were coming over last evening….
It was time to break down and make this YUMMY recipe!
If you love Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwiches… I promise – all your dreams have just come true!
I very rarely eat fast food.
But when I do… a Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich is my go-to FAVE!
And I am super excited to share that I discovered a recipe that totally replicates this best of best chicken sandwich thanks to one of my favorite food bloggers Damn Delicious!
And if you don’t have a Chick-Fil-A near you – or have never tried – this is so easy and perfectly replicates the original, you need look no further.
Are you ready for the most juicy, flavorful, amazing chicken sandwich possible?
Here is the recipe shared by Chungah at Damn Delicious. (Of course, I doubled the recipe, and have lots of yummy leftovers!)
Copycat Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 head green leaf lettuce, leaves separated
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 20 dill pickle slices
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup dill pickle juice
- 1 1/2 cups milk, divided
- 1 cup peanut oil
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon confectioners’ sugar
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Place a chicken breast on a cutting board. With your hand flat on top of it, carefully slice the chicken in half horizontally. Trim excess fat as needed.
- In a large shallow baking dish, combine chicken, pickle juice and 1/2 cup milk; marinate for at least 30 minutes. (I marinated for 8 hours in the refrigerator) Drain well.
- Heat peanut oil in a large skillet over medium high heat.
- In another large shallow baking dish, whisk together remaining 1 cup milk and egg. Stir in chicken to coat and drain excess milk mixture.
- In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine chicken, flour and confectioners’ sugar; season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Working in batches, add chicken to the skillet and cook until evenly golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve chicken immediately on burger buns with green leaf lettuce, tomato and pickle. (I added a splash of Yum Yum Sauce, which I think closely resembles Chick-Fil-A sauce for the little extra YUM!)
ENJOY!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi
Thanks Jodi! I pinned this from Damn Delicious to try also, I am so glad to hear your rave review! I love love Chick Fila sandwich, but I always have to add a little Duke’s mayo 🙂

Never heard of Duke’s Mayo, Jenna – what makes it special? Not sure they sell it here in my part of the world. Might have to google it… 🙂

He will love it! Hope he tries. Does he like to cook?

Oh, he does! Surprised the heck out of me, but he’s actually quite into the whole cooking thing (though will admit that he does have some rather odd cooking gear….like the OCD cutting board and a measuring cup that shows interesting things like “a million grains of sugar,” “volume of half a human brain,” etc.

Interesting ingredients!! I may substitute rice flour and powder organic sugar myself and see what Hub thinks. He used to totally love these sandwiches but he’s been off gluten long enough that the real ones really upset his stomach now. This is cool, I’d be curious what he thinks!! Thanks for the recipe! 💜

I hope you try, Laura! Wouldn’t it be great for so many gluten-freebies to find a copycat that taste like this yummy sandwich?

It totally would, and CFA used to be my daughter’s favorite place too! May be worth a try, and nice use of pickle juice!

so crazy marinating in pickle juice and milk – I used skim btw. But the whole gang was really amazed how it tasted exactly like CFA – if not better – so fresh and plump and juicy 🙂 We all seriously LOVED it. Not a “light” recipe however…. More of a treat kinda dinner 🙂

We don’t count calories since going gluten free. I used to think low carb diets were crazy but now I see the value of them. I’ll never need to diet again, that’s the one good thing about this! Hub too, the bigger concern is making sure we don’t get too thin (if you can believe this). Hmm but I just realized I’d have to sub out real milk for rice milk too. And we don’t normally deep fry anything. Oh, the brain cells are waking up, lol. I guess this would be totally different without the deep fried in peanut oil part?

Yes – that’s the unhealthy part of it. It’s not really deep fried, but pan fried, so a bit less oil. Wow on the too thin part! Don’t think I’ll ever have to worry about that! UGH! Did you ever struggle with your weight?

Yup. From about 30 on, I played with 10-20 lbs I didn’t want. Every woman in my family is overweight (like, more way) and so is my mom. They can’t get off gluten though. I do think it’s key. And getting off GMOs is key too, IMO. My doctor told me to get off them because they are harmful to the stomach, but I also believe that they are designed to make people eat and eat and eat. So, sometimes people get off gluten and go to GMO corn and rice (some gf alternatives)…and just start overeating those things instead. I think the key is to go to organic versions of those things, and even better, go to almond flour and coconut flour, which are high in protein and low carb (and don’t have GMO versions at all). I’d have never believed this before, but after living it for going on two years, I’m a believer. Weight is one issue we will never have now.

I truly admire your commitment and self-control and healthy lifestyle! So glad for you to get rid of those issues and feel better too!

It’s easier than you think! Vic wasn’t feeling as bad as I was on gluten, but his occasional acid reflux, for example, went totally away and other symptoms vanished we never knew had anything to do with gluten. I just think if you feel much better without any food, it’s easier to stay off it. Lol I have no self-control! I just felt that bad before. I’m glad to have discovered the reason why too. Thanks for your amazing Kitchenista-ness!

Well – I tried your trick this past weekend of using caramel filled chocolate chips in my cookie recipe and that was a big hit…so…I will add this to my must try list. Thanks for sharing.

Are there Chick-Fil-A’s in Almost Iowa Greg?

The nearest one is a hundred miles away in the Twin Cities. This is SPAM country. We slap a slab of SPAM between two chunks of bread and call it breakfast, lunch and diner.
Consider posting some SPAM recipes. I bet your reader would get a kick out of it.

LOL! My BF’s daughter works for Hormel – out there somewhere near you! She is a biochemical engineer. We have many SPAM jokes! It is certainly a biochemically engineered kinda food! 🙂

She is probably just down the road in Austin, MN. It is where we do our shopping. Small world.

Looks and sounds delicious! We don’t have a Chicken Fil-A here but there was one in Scottsdale where we graced their drive-thru quite a bit! LOL I have to ask. What is Yum-Yum sauce?

Yum Yum Sauce is actually an orangish creamy sauce served at Japanese hibachi restaurants and tastes a lot like the yummy Chick-Fil-A sauce too 🙂 Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Terry-Hos-Yum-Sauce-16/dp/B007R57JX2

Interesting that you marinate it in pickle juice! I am going glutan free too – and feeling better! I bet I could make this into a lower calorie recipe that is GF. I’m curious about why you add sugar to the flour mix? And YOU always make food look DELISH, Jodi! 😊

We got a Chik-fil-A a few years ago. He-Man and I went to try it a few weeks after it opened only to find the line all the way around the building and down the street! I haven’t been back to try it. It’s about 11 miles from home.
I was going to ask about Yum-yum sauce too. Thanks for the link. I purchase my tea from Amazon so I can add this to the order and try it.
Sugar in the batter would make it Brown easier I’m thinking.
Your sandwich looks delicious. I’m ready for lunch now.😀
