Celebrate Today…. and EVERYday!
Happy Friday my LifeinBetween Friends!
Last night, Hubby and I went to John’s Bar for our usual Thursday night date. We had a couple drinks and dinner and were home in time to watch the Steelers football game. After playing a little fetch with Mr. Charlie outside, I realized I didn’t have a post for today. Of course I was looking forward to today being Friday (though this week sure did fly!), and I wondered what I wanted to say for a Happy Friday message…
While in the office for some meetings this morning, I noticed some beautiful new watercolor prints that were hanging on the wall that were added during a recent remodel, and I fell in love with them. They were extremely simple, yet so mesmerizing and delicate and impactful.
I thought to myself, “I could do that!”
Well – it wasn’t as easy as I thought…..
As many of my fellow watercolor artist friends out there know, restraint is key, yet often oh-so-hard to achieve – especially for us beginners.
But I literally only spent about 10 minutes start to finish on this card, and I kinda like how it turned out. I free formed the leaf with watercolor and brush, splattered a few fall-colored splashes, and then stamped the sentiment on top.
Nothing is ordinary.
Every leaf…
every watercolor painting…
every day….
every person….
has something special about it.
Embrace it, friends.
Cherish the moments!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Sometimes that works best for me. When I try too hard, I don’t like what I do. But… I do need to really start stretching out and trying more difficult work!

I know what you mean. Hard to get out of that safety zone sometimes.

I’m still running my air conditioner on low during the day but it gets chilly at night and especially early in the morning. Won’t be long and I won’t be using the AC again until next spring.

Turned our heat on for first time today. I also tried to build a fire in the fireplace, but smoked up the whole house! UGH! I don’t know why the first fire does that every year! And I did remember to open the flue! 🙂

That is terrible that your house got smokey. I know nothing about fireplaces. I do know they are lovely and would love to have one in the winter.

You created that in 10 minutes? That’s amazing! Did you find, as I do, that if you’re in a time crunch and have to rush, you’re more free and spontaneous and that’s reflected in the art? 🙂

I did – and it really isn’t that great – but I think you are right. I tried two earlier that I overworked and got fed up. Then, later, I just thought, “let’s try it again and just relax and go with it…. and I like what it made. I really need – well want – to learn to make more detailed paintings though – and be patient about it all 🙂

Jodi, I like this one! Maybe being spontaneous works as well as planned! You seem to do creative paintings either way! Happy Friday! Chryssa

I love it! Ten minutes!! Wow, you did an amazing job on the watercolor. I love veins and colors. Happy Friday to you too! Emotions were up and down at our house last night regarding the game. Hubby and Daughter were bummed out. Sorry the team lost. 😦

Thanks Deborah – yes – it really is just a simple one – I do the veins with a broken credit card when the paint is still wet. (Learned from “the frugal crafter” 🙂 ). Oh those Stillers! ARGH!

Beautiful leaf!!! And I love your writing!!! I find it so hard to get a creative handwriting into a picture. That´s why I never do it. But it looks soooo cool, like your´s here! Guess I have to practice! 😉

Well done, Jodi! I’m so glad you relaxed and went with it. I’m very surprised at the result of last night’s game. I think all of Baltimore probably is, lol! Great looking leaf. Glad you’re rolling with it. :))))

wonderfully created card Jodi! the freedom you expressed with the design, placements, leaf shape and brushwork is so appealing. It is a more ‘giving’ feeling coming from than if it was a tightly drawn, structured artwork. love the message 🙂 lets celebrate!
