I was in big trouble the other day this past week, friends!
But I have to tell you —- It was SO WORTH it!
And besides… Mom isn’t really that tough. She tries to be mad and mean and tell me when I am bad…
but when I give her the sad, sorry look – guess what?
She believes it! (Can YOU tell how sorry I am from the look in my face above here?)
So Mom had some ribs thawing on the counter early in the morning getting ready to be dry rubbed and roasted all day in the oven for dinner.
While they were on the counter, she was in her office on one of those conference calls she does for work.
Now – I never let her see me do this, but – – if I really need to, I can reach up onto the kitchen counter — especially when something smells as good as RIBS! So – while she was distracted, I swooped up and snagged about a pound of the three pounds she had thawing and swiftly sped out the doggy door.
Here is what some of the ones looked like that I couldn’t grab in time.
O M G Friends! They were TOO DIE FOR! Even in their semi-frozen state.
Mom caught me when I was down to about two ribs and she tried chasing me around the yard for them, but I wasn’t giving in on this one, and we ran circles around the yard while I continued gripping and gnawing at my final ribs.
When I was done, I finally came to her, licking my lips, and looking at her like:
“Did you call me?”
Here I am!” (teeheehee)
I had my own Charlie’s RibFest!
And yep – I got in trouble,
but yep – it was also worth it!
Just sayin’….
Do you ever have tough decisions to make like that? You know you shouldn’t… You know you are going to get in trouble… but you know it’ll be ok in the end.
And this is how I spent most of the afternoon.
It’s a dog’s life – (happy sigh)…
Anybody having ribs tonight at their house? I’m available!
Woofs & Wags,
Charlie

Oh dear! What a happy dog. I can’t leave anything out either. Sometimes I put a barricade of kitchen things in front so they can’t get to them. We have friends with greatcdanes who can reach everything. I don’t know how they cope.

I love your stories. I too had this experience with a newly adopted dog. But she got 3 out of 5 filet mignon steaks that I had defrosting for company. I learned my lesson after that. All food on counter was pushed waaaay back on the counter. lol

OH Charlie I am sure you napped well all afternoon with your belly so happily full! And after that long run of chase in the yard 🙂 LOL at your Mom trying to be mean, I am sure it is hard for her. But I would suggest that you may want to lay low today, you don’t want to push it you know 🙂 And hey just MAYBE if you are really good today she will give you one of those delicious ribs for a special treat! And yep I agree Sometimes the trouble is worth the prize. In fact I remember your Mom saying that some boundaries are meant to be crossed, you must have read her post the other day. Good dog 🙂

You are so welcome and YES it is!! You need to CHERISH the MOMENTS and for every minute we are mad, we lose 60 seconds of happiness 🙂 BUT I still would lay low for a little bit, let Mom be able to stay calm for the week end 🙂

Have to route for Charlie on this one….I know it was frustrating, Jodi, but you can’t blame him when temptation is placed so close……let me put it another way……if I left an untouched yet unwrapped piece of chocolate fudge on the counter at your place and then went outside to take a personal call……would you…….(assuming of course, that you could beat Charlie to it…) ……just saying…

so funny! brings Memories of my girl stealing our burgers; til I trained her not to. lol… With a string of 15 tin cans hooked up to the “treat” pulled it down with a CRASH!! after that, just a can on the counter did the job. so funny 🙂

Well, Charlie, it seems like you learned very early in life that it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Well done, Buddy…:)

Oh Charlie, you naughty boy. You’re not the first dog to grab hold of food from the counter and you won’t be the last. Our first dog ate a whole plum cake when we were visiting my mom’s place and she thought we (her children and my husband) did it. Our next dog grabbed a cake that my friend and her little girl made in the BBQ when they were visiting us at the cottage. It was still hot and they put it on the picnic table. When they returned from the outhouse it was completely devoured. That same dog was never allowed in the living room but she could reach just far enough to hoover up half a tray of Christmas cookies that had been placed by the living room door.
At least what you ate didn’t make you sick. Our daughter’s Bassett Hound ate half a tennis ball. Major surgery and $7000. later put all of us a little further back financially. They all make for great stories and yes, we don’t stay angry for long.
