After practicing a few more watercolor skies last evening (and feeling frustrated!… Why are skies so hard for me??!), I decided to do something that made me happy, so I just took a small piece of watercolor paper and did a quick, free and easy abstract pear in some of my favorite colors – letting the colors blend and do their thing. I could then relax happy, and it made me think of some of my favorite pears pairs.
Do you have some favorite pairs?
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi
Let’s not forget Fred and Ginger! I’m so glad it’s pear season too. Love the looseness of your painting. (K)

Yes! Jodi and her watercolor paintbrush! Don’t ever stop. This painting is so Jodi-y! 💜 Skies frustrated me for many months. One thing that really helped is Shari Blaukopf’s Craftsy class on landscapes. It’s one that is available forever once you buy it, has hours of instruction, and you can post your artwork and get feedback from students and Shari too. She has a blog here also and it’s wonderful if you’re into watercolor landscapes and urban sketching. I’ll find a link and post it. The skies I’ve done after the class that I did like – were easy and fast and no fuss at all. I think my problem, I was working at it much too hard. The sunny glow in the sky in your last painting was IMO amazing. I think you’ve got it, you’ve just gotta relax into it. But that class would help and part of the secret is a really big squirrel brush. It’s listed in her materials which you can see before buying the course. Happy Thursday, my sweet! 💛💜💛

Thanks Cutie! I did get it and am trying it. And I am following her blog too! I think I discovered through Charlie! I think I need better/bigger brushes….. 🙂

That big squirrel (or was it the Escoda synthetic, also large, not sure) was key for me because it forced me not to fuss. And didn’t break the bank. Honestly it didn’t work for me at first but then I kept watching the classes on skies and eventually got it. Good luck, I know what you’re going through, wanting to see something satisfying before going to bed. I’ve got a better chance with a pointy medium lol. You’ll get there, just be patient. It’s all about the attitude coming in IMO.

I would say you accomplished your sky beautifully, highlighting your luscious pear. I think Debi might tell us to surrender to the paint, we can’t control it. 😄❤️. Your painting makes me feel warm and happy, Jodi.

I’m still so new too – but thanks! Watch Youtube videos on “beginning watercolor” Frugal Crafter is good and basic for beginners. Debi Riley’s blog is amazing! arttutor.com Hope that helps!

Your frustration bore fabulous fruit!! 😉This is stunning Jodi! I love how loose and yet volumetric it is. I can’t do that, (Philippe can though), so it’s super impressive to me! I love it! ❤️❤️😃

I was so happy to see a Jodi watercolor today! YAY! 🎨👍 I love how you allow the colors to blend together! You really do have a knack for watercolors, my friend! And you add just the right amount of splatter too! 💖 A good watercolor brush can make an amazing difference for the amount of water it holds but it also just takes LOTS of practice! 😜 You CAN do it, Jodieeee! 🎨💖👍

Love your little “pair” painting! As I saw your chocolate pairs, I immediately thought of my favorite chocolate pair: chocolate&orange. Another favorite pair of mine is dog&walk. Or dogwalk&nature. Thanks for this fun post, Jodi! 💕
