One less hour of sleep last night…
for a later sunset…
Yep! I’ll take it!

I would like for them to keep this permanently. Happy Spring Forward Day! LOL! (As far as I know, there’s no such thing). I LOVE your sunset picture, Jodi! It really is beautiful!!

I agree PJ! I like later evenings. This was just really a 5-minute experiment with hot press paper, which is a completely different feel than cold press – very smooth and the paint reacts very different. Happy Sunday! We’re having a birthday party today! 🙂

Is it your birthday?? It’s really strange how the different type of papers can make such a difference!

Jodi, this is gorgeous! I’ve never tried HP paper for anything but detail work. Wow, wonderful job! How did you get the white and dark lines? Is some gouache mixed in, or something else? Love this! Happy Birthday to your son and have fun today!

Awh! Thanks Laura – I didn’t think it was very good, but decided to show it anyway – haha! The black lines are panes gray paint. The white highlights I did at the very end with a white gel pen. It is a great little detailer when needed (like for eye highlights) Thanks for the birthday wishes for Nick, and have another great day with your daughter!

😎👏🏻💃🏻💜💛I really love the foreground colors underneath. Very cool combination! I just love skies and it feels like water coming forward to me. Lots of drama in a sky is wonderment to me. Well done!

and PS I just ordered some paper from Blick – some 300 lb and some rough 140 lb. I love trying different papers.

I’m glad you’re doing this; I think you’re really supposed to! I just got a Blick order too….acrylic paper and pastel paper as I explore new mediums once again! I’d like to really mix up mediums and I don’t want to have any limits around my artwork at all. Trying to expand my range! We’ll see what happens. Enjoy your experimentation! I should try the 300lb., as its recommended for pastel and acrylic as well. 💜

I’d also like to try some Fabriano and Bockingford papers, to be honest. Give them a fair shake, as lots of artists love them!

That’s beautiful, and really neat with the texture in the foreground. Clever use of the highlight pen!
I really like the 140lb hot press paper, and am also going to try some more “high end” papers along with some different brands of watercolor paints. I have some Lukas AQuarell 1862 watercolor paints arriving this week I can’t wait to try, and I have some Aquash brushes I need to try too. I want to be brave and try plein air sketching and painting. 🙂
I think it’s important for us to try new papers, paints, brushes, and subjects so we grow and discover who we are as creators/artists. In addition it’s just as important find out what we like and don’t, what works, and what doesn’t work as well, etc.
I see your style already, and recognize your work. I still am evolving and haven’t developed mine yet. I may never, but I’m having fun in the meantime.
Have a lovely day with the family today. Happy Birthday to your son!
