I’ve never been very successful at growing roses,
but I thought it might be fun to try painting some this past weekend.
Roses remind me of love,
of Mother’s Day,
of Romeo and Juliet,
of Valentines and fragrance and summertime.
Roses also remind me that there is always two ways to look at things…
Roses have thorns…
or
Thorns have roses!
May you see roses in all of your thorns.
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Beautiful Jodi!! And wise words too, my friend. Wow, love the colors in the second one in particular!! Do you remember what colors you used? Roses aren’t easy to capture but you’re making wonderful progress here. Well done!!! ๐จ๐๐น

I think I like the second one best too. I can’t remember whether I used Quin Violet or Windsor Violet and a little of azo yellow. Just not sure – it was over the weekend, and sometimes I just use what is on the palette already ๐ Some “artist” I am – eh?! LOL!

Haha we all do that! :))) Although Charles Reid says that’s bad, bad lol. Have you seen his videos on Artist Network TV? His floral lessons will wow you!

He’s worth checking out. He’s a great teacher and is internationally known. I think he may still be doing workshops!

Roses always remind me of my mother, so the mother’s day reference is apt. Nice capture of their form. (K)

I like the optimist view that thorns have roses! I’ve seen hybrids without thorns but I bought a hardy variety with thorns. ๐ Yours is lovely and…no thorns!

You have just the right touch for roses! Beautiful paintings today! Both my gramma and mom were rose growers. I used to love to break off the thorns and stick on my nose like a rhino. Kids do such silly things.

What a nice way to look at it! “Thorns have rose” rather than “roses have thorns,” puts the emphasis on the positive. I also love roses, but have very limited success in growing them. Your pictures capture their beauty perfectly!

Jodi, I’ve found Aphids to big the biggest problem with my roses. Thank goodness you decided not to paint any on your roses. I think your roses look much prettier without them. :O)
