I almost missed you

first purple iris

First Purple Iris – May 2016 – Mars, PA

You showed up
in your regal purple cloak
and delicate golden tassels
on the other side of the house.

I almost missed you.
Your hours were numbered
until you gracefully retreated
and made room for the others.

Thank you for the reminder
that beauty is everywhere
and often fleeting
and often in places we rarely look.

Thank you for the reminder
that we must open our eyes
and open our hearts
and take the time to simply look.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

  1. Truly beautiful words! And so glad you didn’t miss this flower either, love it! Yes don’t miss the moments, Cherish them! 🙂 ❤ my friend! Especially the Twitterpated moments 🙂 You will have to read the comments under my post and add your own, surely you have had some Twitterpated moments right? And your sons 🙂 You can help me in my saying how guys can do foolish tings under the influence of being Twitterpated as well as girls 🙂

    • Sharon – I’m so glad you love the words today. These words came very easy and then when I proof-read – I was like – Wow – I like that a lot. And I thought of you – and what you are going through (I really did) – and I wondered if you would associate it with what you are going through.

Life – flowers – animals – people – our days are numbered – but if we look closely at each day – at each moment – there is beauty there that we need only take the time to open our hearts and eyes to see – and we must try not to blink too long or overlook – or we will miss it. Each moment is a gift.

People – animals – flowers – come into our life for a time – and then they leave – making room for others. The circle of life.

      Hugs from Mars.

  3. Aw, Jodi, this post is just so you. Sweet and beautiful. Now you know why I walk around my house because I never know what is popping up in my garden. Oh wow! Thanks for the reminder. I have a clematis to photograph!!! ❤

  4. Oh my, there were literally hundreds of these planted around the house that we bought and remodeled last year. I put an ad on craigslist (free to take them) and they were all dug up and sent to new homes in only two days. I do love lilies, but their beauty is fleeting. I believe the people we bought this house from divided and shared those lilies all up and down the street, so I don’t miss out on their beauty. The next door neighbor has plenty for me to enjoy as I drive up my driveway to park in back in the garage.. They are just a foot or so from my driveway. 🙂 Lovely photo, though!

  5. What a lovely post, Jodi! Both the photo and the poem. I especially like the last line about opening our hearts and eyes and taking the time to see the beauty that is right in front of us. Very wise words!
