Some of my sweet “regulars” here at LifeinBetween.me might remember a very similar painting I shared last month of a Blue Feather….
And even though this one looks about the same size as that first one here…..
in real life, it is hugely different!
The first one was 5 x 7″…
This one…. is 17 x 22″!
To try to give you a feel for the size, I took a photo of my son, Nick, holding it. Nick is 6’3″ tall.
Why? You might be asking…. Did I paint such a large blue feather?!
It was actually a requested piece.
Someone who saw the blue feather cards on our McKinneyX2Designs ETSY page asked if she could have it in a large painting.
So I tore a full sheet of Fabriano Artistico 300 lb Cold Press in half and started splashing water and paint with abandon!
I am thrilled to report she loved it.
I am also thrilled to report what a joy it was to create.
What a joyous journey it is discovering my passion for creativity.
Are you finding joy in your journey?
Happy Friday my friends!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi
It works beautifully in an expanded form! (K)

Ohhhh . although I’ve clicked to ‘Like’ this I don’t just like it, I LOVE it! WordPress needs a ‘love’ ❤ as well as a 'like' so that we can express something more.
If this piece of artwork were displayed at a craft fair, I'd absolutely buy it. It's not merely beautiful to look at, it holds a special message which speaks to something deep within the layers of my soul.
A truly beautiful work of heart.
Thanks for sharing. ~ Cobs. x

Love the colors, Jodi. Is it more difficult to paint a larger piece like this? If so, how?

Wow, it is huge, at first I thought it looked big, held by maybe a 10 year old, then you said it was actually your son hiding behind the feather at a grand6ft + and then I thought wooper feather, and it works, congratulations ❤️

Love! Jodi…..you have been in a groove or something….I will outline what I love about this feather….ready?
1. Your choice of colors…cobalt teal blue I think is in there, Debi has convinced us both! the blending, the spots of yellow/gold is outstanding, gives it “pop”
2. It is BIG!
3. It is on my favorite paper….Fabulous Fabriano!
4. soft edge on top left….love!
5. you leaving white showing through (I am still trying to learn this!)
6. that left edge where the color is so soft and with cobalt teal blue flirting with us viewers.
7. the dark blue I think fr. ultra blue where it is slightly giving an edge of color in the center….brilliant!
8. splashes and drips….your signature!
9. last but not least…..that little itsy bitsy drop/drip on the very bottom of the feather, you know the thingy that attaches to the bird….not sure what the name of that is…..Love that!
I was hoping for coming to a 10 on my list…..but heck it is a 10 in my book! amazing!

Wow Margaret!!!!! Wow – I am so very flattered that you like this and took all the time to write this amazing comment! You totally made my day! WOW! That’s all I can think right now. THANK YOU SO much!!! ❤ And PS the dark blue is Prussian. Three colors Prussian, CBT, Quin Gold. I'm on Cloud Nine

ah…..Prussian, how would you rate it against FUB? I use strictly Daniel Smith, just wondering if the brands are similar? I have wondered about it because it seems to be a color that a lot of people use. By the way, I outlined what I really love because there were so many “hot spots” in your painting and I had to comment about it. Also I think it is good to hear how your art comes across. I could not just let it go and not say something, you know? when I get all excited about something I have to let it rip. lol 😀 Oh….I got the #10 “the fact that you used only 3 colors” avoiding mud and muddle! lol there you go!

lol! Yay for #10! 🙂
I have a variety of M Graham, Winsor Newton and have just started purchasing Daniel Smith. I honestly like them all.
Oh – and that Fabriano Artistico paper – DREAMY! YOU are the reason I tried it – bought a few full sheets after hearing you talk about it. It is awesome. I think I like better than Arches. Everyone always talks about Arches – you are the first I heard talk about the Fabriano. LOVE!

I agree….I love Fabriano….adore the stuff….and it is Debi’s favorite as well, that says it all! I am finding that Arches is now being pushed back after Fab. and then Saunders….love it because it has an unique softness to it. Have you tried Saunders yet? lol yep….I would say that Fabriano is dreamy, good choice of description. I could easily be their poster child for a truckload of their paper, I can easily become an art slut. yep 😀

Fabriano rough is landscape heaven, lol and the cold press is delightful, and their Soft Press, is delectable. 🙂

my personal fav paper for my own self, has always been Fab rough, or soft press. but, I never suggest it, for new new beginners. Arches rough is so much more RUGGED!!! takes a real thrashing & is still ok with it 🙂

paper. what a delightful adventure to get experimenting with. some will not work so well. others will be Magical. once you play with Fab. then see about the deckled ‘Twin River Feathered deckled wc paper’ The Big wavy edges on it are soooo lovely.

a great adventure. But I would not hang it up. What is it good for if you have to step back 5 meters to watch it? If you look at a real feather Close up it is a marvel. Herre you see only paint, even though admirably made.

Good point A! And I would have never even thought to do it had it not been asked of me. But then I liked how it turned out a lot – and a painting of a feather can never – and should never – replace the beautiful intricacy of an actual feather. But if you can use it as a symbol to express something creatively – it produces its own life and uniqueness. 🙂
