Happy First Day of Autumn

Autumn Tree Watercolor 5 x 7 140lb Fabriano Artistico

For the past few days,
I’ve so wanted to create an Autumn landscape scene…

The colors… the leaves… the trees… the beauty.

But,
each time I “TRIED” too hard,
I ended up scrapping what I created.

Then, the other night,
I just decided to do a single tree,
and I kinda like how it turned out.

10 minutes…
of relaxation
and joy
and contentment.

Sometime I have to step back and quit trying so hard to create the next “masterpiece” and simply enjoy the process.
It seems that is when the magic happens.

It’s similar to how I used to hate Fall –
mainly because it meant kids were going back to school…. summer was over… winter was coming..
and I completely missed the real beauty and pleasure Fall itself has to offer.

Enjoy the “present!”
Cherish the moments.
All the little moments…
of life
in
between.

Happy Autumn…
Happy Fall
Happy Autumnal Equinox!

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

  1. Love your bright, bold Fall tree, Jodi! I like the colors of your leaves!! 🍂 🍁But I love the twisted tree trunk and the color of the bark! And the leaves on the ground! Whenever I try to create the perfect painting, I go outside and look at nature. It always reminds me that it is the imperfections that I find interesting. 😍🎨💕🍂

  2. Beautiful words to complement a beautiful picture. 😊 Our family is getting better at savor ing fall, too. Instead of settling for the incidental views on the daily commute, we take trips intentionally to soak them in at vistas over large swaths of nature. Feeds the soul, I say! 😄

  3. Jodi….I love your tree and you know what? the fact that you relaxed and had fun and stopped trying so hard. I think sometimes we get into our heads (me too!) that a painting needs to be a certain way or whatever but when you truly relax and just paint, that magic happens and that is something that you can’t force. Your tree is so you! your colors and I love, no….adore how you let that granulating color seep and drip down the trunk and into the ground. It is simply lovely and with that touches of pure red at the bottom. By the way what is that color? You know for the trunk and branches…..

  4. I can relate to this on both levels. First, I also used to dread Fall for exactly the same reasons, and even now struggle to enjoy it fully, knowing winter is following behind. Second, it’s the same way with writing: when I am struggling so hard to come up with an elaborate plot line in fiction, or even a very clever post, I get nowhere. When I stop and take a deep breath, and then simply write what feels natural, the words just flow! Great tree, by the way! Sometimes simple is best, and gets the job done beautifully!
