Pink Apricot Watercolor Tulips.
I found a few extra moments to steal away to my art studio this past weekend.
I felt like painting some tulips – inspired by our recent trip to Phipps Conservatory‘s Spring Flower Show.
I gave this one a couple tries before I finally decided I liked this version. I started too tight and too “literal.” I so admire folks who paint things that look exactly like real life, but it is not my passion. In my first go, I tried much to hard to replicate the photo. I then loosened up a bit and created this version that more represents the beauty I felt looking at the tulips.
To me, this painting speaks Joy and Happiness and Life.
And that is what I am feeling this week as we count down the days in wedding week!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

So pretty! I’ve always wanted to paint, but I just don’t have the talent.

Oh you should try. I only started about 2 years ago – it is fun – and if you enjoy – that is all that matters.

I think I would need to take a class, I have tried on my own and nothing turns out to look like I envision it to look. It just looks like blobs of pain on a canvas. lol

Your loose-style painting is exactly why I love your watercolors so much! So much beauty to interpret, rather than rigid reality. ❤

I think art is expression and as much as people admire photographic realism, it isn’t enough art for me. 🙂 I love that you went loose and don’t ever feel that you need to make it “look like” how about make it “feel like” 😉 and I think you accomplished that! Beautiful colors and joy is in your tulips. Oh the big day is coming! so exciting!

Gorgeous artwork Jodi. As soon as I saw this I tried to remember when I read about you starting your painting and then I saw the reply to one of the comments above. It is amazing how your artwork has evolved in the past 2 years. It is a real pleasure to follow this journey with you. As always, thank you for sharing.

I like the way your paintings are literal enough that I can always tell what the subject is, and yet abstract enough to convey emotion and create interest, rather than just looking like a photo. They are so cheerful, I can’t imagine anyone not wanting them on their walls!
