The Orange Azalea in Watercolor.

Inspired to create and paint once again
from our recent visit to Phipps Conservatory,

I made a first go at
the orange azalea in watercolor.

For this painting, I used Daniel Smith watercolors in Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Orange, Deep Red, Green Gold, and Perylene Green.

Hoping the April Showers are bringing you May Flowers.

  5. I recently found your blog and really enjoy your watercolor posts so much! Gorgeous work! Do you teach any classes in Pgh? I am from Pgh as well, I am new to watercolor and would really enjoy taking one of your classes/workshops or one on one instruction. If you do not teach any classes, do you happen to know of any classes in Pgh? I have a good supply of professional watercolors, brushes, & paper just really need to take a few courses.     • Oh Tami! I am so flattered that you would think I could teach classes! I have actually never taken a class and have just been dabbling in the watercolor medium on my own for about two years now. I would love to learn about some watercolor classes in the area myself! I can recommend you search YouTube. There are lots of great watercolor artists that generously share their talent and instruction. Thanks for making my day!!!

  13. Bam….!!! did you nail this or what? I think what I like is that you have such a variety of strokes, color, movement and….and…..I want to add more! I think two things that I truly love is the outer edges where you showed stamens but not overly done, just the silhouette? I think that would be the word, of the outer edges. Love that. And the wash was varied throughout without tedious detail. Bam!!! 😉

    • Wow! Really Margaret? I almost didn’t post this one – just wasn’t sure…. Did it about a week ago. Often like it more once I let a bit of time to pass. It ages and melds a bit – and I can look at it more objectively :).
