A Birthday Dachshund Puppy Watercolor Painting.
I have to say I was a bit taken aback when we received a message on our McKinneyx2Designs Etsy page from a sweet lady named Sarah telling us (my daughter-in-law, Colleen and I) that she loved our shop and asked if I could paint a dachshund for her best friend’s birthday.
My first reaction was to immediately decline. Then I decided to wait a day before responding and secretly give it a try… just for fun… to see if I could even do it.
I seriously allowed myself to have fun with it. Not worrying if she would like it or not. I had recently picked up a tube of Daniel Smith Lunar Black just for kicks recalling Debi Riley mentioning a while back, and thought this would be a great opportunity to give it a try.
For this painting, I used only three colors: Daniel Smith Lunar Black, Yellow Ochre, and Permanent Deep Red, and I painted loosely and quickly.
I’m happy to report Sarah loved it!
And don’t tell Charlie…. but it makes me want want one of these cute little Dachshund puppies!
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

I love this! You captured the expression perfectly! Did you do this from a photo, or just free-style? Either way, you need to paint more daschunds!

Jodi, I love your way of creating a sweet pup with a grin and such a loving personality! 🙂 My Mom saved a dachshund-beagle mix puppy, about five years ago, from some “mean” teens! She had to walk slowly down the stairs on hers (and before he died, Dad’s) cliff steps. The boys were trying to drown the puppy in Lake Erie. 😦 So sad but they took off as she yelled loudly at them.) The pup is named Bella. Pronounced Ba – ya. My Mom was in a senior living apt for 3 years and now, is at a memory care unit but Bella and her older dog, a Shih-tzu, named Nikki live at my youngest brother’s house with his wife and a golden retriever, Hamlet.

What a sweet story! I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s health decline. Such a hard thing for a daughter to go through. I have friends going through similar situations. Wishing you peace and moments of clarity and joy with her. Hugs.

Jodi, thank you for such lovely and caring words of comfort. This touches me that you gave me this gift of thought and time tonight.
My three best friends lost their parents while they were in their thirties and forties. This makes me treasure my Mom. Having been an activities director at a nursing home, I know not to quarrel or try to correct her. I go with whatever time frame she is in. She’s very “with it” cognitively, in the morning thru afternoon period. It is much better since she is in a more positive environment. The other place allowed her to walk outside (past a front desk) in freezing cold weather without a coat. She ended up with pneumonia. They had security, also cameras. . . She likes her friends who are the same every day at her table. 🙂 Hugs xo
