A “Woohoo” Journey

A Woohoo Journey.

I was talking to a friend the other day
whose family just returned from their annual weekend amusement park vacation.

It made me think about how many “rides”…. how many difficult situations… how many journeys…
I closed my eyes and waited until it was over.

Instead of enjoying the ride… Instead of appreciating the journey,
and shouting “Woohoo!”

Roller Coasters…
literally and figuratively.

I think of all the things I missed….
just waiting to get to the end – the destination.

No more!
No more closing my eyes and waiting.

Eyes are now wide open.
I am watching.  I am appreciating.  I am enjoying the journey!

(Just please don’t hold me to this on the Thunderbolt at Kennywood!)

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

  1. EXCELLENT reminder to enjoy each moment! However, I am with you about rollercoasters–they give me the willies. As I told my rollercoaster-loving husband, “You go right ahead. I’ll be the one on the ground, waving a corn dog at you!” 🙂

  2. Great post! Love the quote! Yes, we need to keep our eyes open and find more reasons to say “Woo Hoo!” Even if it is screaming , “Woo-Hoo!” at the fact that we survived the “roller coaster”!
I am with you about your feelings of coasters. My husband has convinced me to go on some, but trust me I am hanging on tight as I remind him that I didn’t update my will! There are 2 that I did learn to like though. 🙂

  3. You were channeling Emerson’s thoughts: “Life is a journey, not a destination.” Love your take on this trip that we call life, it definitely feels like a roller coaster ride at times! I think that it’s the dips and bumps that challenge us to be the best that we can be, to never give up, to embrace the days that we are given and to remember to be grateful for them. Life is filled with unplanned twists and turns, some good and some not so good. In the end, it’s how we choose to navigate them that makes the difference between a life well lived and one just endured.

  4. I agree, Jodi! We need to keep our eyes open instead of hunkering down and simply trying to endure until the scary times are over. (Except for roller coasters. On roller coasters, we get to cling tightly to the handbar, close our eyes and pray fervently that it will soon be over. I didn’t even make it through the video!)

  5. My grandson, Micah, who is eight (was up at Lake Erie with my brothers, sister in law and Mom. He went to Cedar Point amusement park with my younger brother and his wife plus two of their grandkids. They rode almost ALL the roller coasters except ones which tip over or do a corkscrew. 🙂 😀
