Watching and Waiting: A Charlie Guest Post

Watching and Waiting:  A Charlie Guest Post.

Early in the morning
after a long night’s slumber,
I peek out from under the covers
to see if a new day has begun.

I stretch, and I shake
and gobble up some breakfast.

I then head outside
while the fog is often thick,
and the sun is beginning to shine…
to watch and wait…

I watch and wait
for the UPS or FedEx delivery truck,
or Cliff, the mailman.

I watch and wait
for my friend, Jager to wander up to play,
or his grandma, Tracy, to go for a walk.

I watch and wait
for a deer to wander by,
or to chase a squirrel sneaking food from the bird feeders.

I watch and wait
for the neighbor kids to play in their yard,
or the other neighbor dogs to bark from their yard.

I watch and wait
for my mom to come out and throw a ball,
or my sweet, baby niece to visit (if it’s Friday!).

I watch and wait
for a stick that needs chewed on,
or any other thing that smells good in the yard to eat.

I watch and wait
for my brothers to come visit,
or my Dad to come home for dinner.

My days are very busy…
watching and waiting.

It’s a dog’s life…
and this is my domain.

Woofs & Wags,
Charlie

  1. What a patient dog you are Charlie and what great things you have to watch and wait for! Have a wonderful Friday and thanks for the lovely poem. Your Mom must have passed down some of her writing skills to you.Charlie the Poet! 🙂

  2. Good Morning, Charlie! Watching and waiting requires unlimited patience. You have mastered this art magnificently. Benjamin is watching and waiting too…for the first snow that Winter Storm Benji is bringing on Saturday. He will have snowsuit, boots and shovel waiting at the door, while he watches from the window. Benjamin and Gem love your posts and you look as handsome as ever in the photo. Thank-you for reminding us to watch and wait, so we don’t miss the best parts of the day! Please tell Mom “Hello”!

  3. Wow, Charlie you can do poetry. You never cease to amaze me 😉 But I’m glad to know you are doing your job “watching and waiting” to play and help your family and friends or to protect them the mailman or other passerby’s in your line of sight.
Hope you are spoiled this Christmas Charlie and hugs to your Mom.

  4. Hey Charlie, You know something, (please keep it to yourself) I have always stayed away from your friends and relatives. I used to be scared. Last week, my friend got a beautiful one week old pup from the streets and introduced me to her. She is Kaira. I held her in my arms and put her to sleep. Thats when I realised what I had missed for so long in my life. Kaira has sent woofs and wags to you. Keep writing Charlie… You make this world and very beautiful place.
