When Timber Makes One Feel Small.
When I awoke yesterday morning,
I squealed like a elementary school girl anticipating a snow day.
We had our first measurable snowfall,
and this is the beauty I get to behold from my back deck.
As I took in the bright sunlight, the tall trees, and the long shadows they cast,
I felt very small realizing the expanse of nature and our world.
And it reminded me of a quote from a sweet little book I just read
and have been itching to share, because I think about it every day now.
If I got to talk to
me when I was little.
I’m not sure who
would be smarter.
Little me telling me
what not to forget.
Or bigger me telling
little me ‘if only I’d
known.’
What do you think? Which one of you is smarter?
Colleen is also a blogger, who shares little bits of insanely insightful wisdom with simple, adorable illustrations that really draw you in. Check her out at The Chatter Blog.

Untouched snow in the morning is definitely magical. As to who is smarter…I’d say it’s a toss-up…it varies day-to-day, as well as year-to-year. (K)

Good question… the answer depends on the matter… but I would say the grown up me… little me had lots to learn and I am just in the middle of the path… 🤗🤗

I’ve ordered that book and I simply know I’m going to love it. Your musing is an excellent one …. I have always refused to let 6 year old me be squished and part of that is because I do think I was smarter then before prejudice about how I must act and speak fully took over. 6 year old me certainly sees wonder in a way that adult me doesn’t so instantly, 6 year old me doesn’t think its so bad to be entirely distracted by something beautiful (like freshly fallen snow) and 6 year old me could fly. But that’s another story 😉 Your backyard is absolutely stunning. Heavenly. Xo

When I was little they called me wooden head so that should tell you how smart I was when I was little but the more I think about it, I was pretty smart as a little girl. LOL!

I am so grateful people get to wake up to such visions. And then….wasn’t I surprised to see myself here! 🙂 Thank you Jodi. It was a beautiful gift to me to be shared with your trees. You’re my favorite today. ❤

I believe that I have mentioned on numerous occasions that I like to meander through new (to me) blogs. Sometimes, I visit sporadically and other times I stay. On December 9th. a comment on your post by Chatter Master piqued my interest. I wandered into her blog and stayed. The drawing of the snowman was instant love and her words completely captivated me. Love your photo and your thoughts that are always overflowing with inspiration. Thank-you!

You are so lucky to have that gorgeous snow fall! As for which version of me is smarter, I think perhaps the older one, but not by much. And it may not even be smarter, it may simply be more confident.

hmmmm… I go back and forth on which is “smarter” – depends on how we define “smart” I suppose.

Just found you post from email I havent caught up on.
Different trees but same view. I love waking up to this vision, mine is from my front deck which has a view of the Crystal range obstructed in part by 100 ft – 200 ft trees. Thankful for being so blessed.
And a fresh snow excites me everytime, like my 6 year old self, butterflies in my stomach so bursting with anticipation waiting for Santa. Love your thought provoking posts.
