Dear Dictionary –
We’ve
talked about this
before…
Your book is lacking
a few words
I so desperately need.
I’ve already told you
there needs to be
a word created
to describe the
the overflowing feeling
of love
I feel
when I think
of my granddaughter.
Other grandparents
understand
this conundrum…
But now
I need
another word…
I watched
the movie
“Mudbound.”
An Academy Award
nominated
film
for best supporting actress,
best cinematography,
and best writing of an adapted screenplay.
And at the end,
I sat
speechless.
The anger…
The hatred…
The sorrow…
The heartache…
The hope…
The compassion…
The conviction…
The love…
Dear Dictionary,
can you give me the word
that describes all of this wrapped up in one?
And then I listened
to the closing song,
Mighty River.
and
I
cried.
I so want to talk
about this
powerful film.
But I don’t
want to
spoil it
for those
who haven’t
seen it.
Please
watch
it.
And let me share the opening verse to Mary J. Blige’s Song, Mighty River:
Life is a teacher, time is a healer
And I’m a believer like a river wild
Ego’s a killer, greed is a monster
But love is stronger, stronger than them all.
Can we
please
let Love Be Stronger than them All?
Please.
Hugs,
Jodi
Wow Jodi very beautifully written. Great words.

Sounds like the movie really hit your heart, I haven’t seen it, and doubt I will. If it doesn’t have a happy ending I’m not going to watch it. I’m too sensitive, to have my heart torn apart, and then dwell on it’s message for months later. I don’t watch scarry movies either. Clue me in if I read between the words in the wrong way.

I don’t want to spoil anything but the end does make the difficult parts worth it.

To watch Mudbound is also on my to do list. I understand it might not be suitable for the tender-hearted.

There are certainly some difficult parts to get through but well worth in the end.

I have not seen this yet. But already know I add an ‘amen’ to your “let Love Be Stronger than them All?”.

Jodi, I could not agree with you more about how we need more words in describing Love. I also agree with you that Love is where it is at and when we do live from that state life changes and everything around you becomes divine. I also thank you for this movie because of late I have been having trouble finding good movies. I am really enjoying sitting while crocheting another blanket for a baby in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in our Children’s Hospital here in Buffalo, New York. I really enjoyed reading your power words. Thank you! May you have a wonderful day this day. Bless you! 💕🌸💕

I watched Mudbound last evening. WOW! Powerful movie! This one will stay with me awhile. The stain that is over this entire country because of how whites treated African-Americans. How humans can act as they did (do) towards others of different skin color is horrifying. I pray one day that stain no longer exists. 🌈

I know right? Horrifying. So so despicable. I think the world is changing. Probably too slowly but I think forward. Our children don’t have the prejudices are parents did. At least I sure hope not.

Change usually does come slow. Unfortunately negative patterns are not easy to replace with more healthier ones. I’ll be truthful that this movie was not easy for me to watch. The ending was surprising … and yet still horrifying knowing ….

I know -sometimes we need to watch things that are difficult though – It was very hard to watch some of it – but I was so happy with the ending at least.

This is lovely, Jodi. (Maybe it’s time to create words to add to the lexicon!) I’ve read Mudbound, and look forward to seeing the film, even though I know it’s not going to be easy to watch,,,
