Not everything that is faced
can be changed,
but nothing can be changed
until it is faced.
James Baldwin
I started a new book yesterday on Audible to listen to while I walk with Charlie – Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult.
The weather is getting a bit nicer, the daylight longer, and we need to get moving!
Nothing makes the time go faster than when I have a good book to listen to.
I was hooked from the first paragraph.
And when I heard this quote as I was listening on my walk, I almost stopped in my tracks. I backed it up a bit, and I listened again as the brief quote spoke to my soul.
I am facing a time of change in my life.
I’m guessing many of us are.
The changes we are going through are vastly different I’m sure.
Mine is career-centered.
Yours might be a relationship change or news about your health.
It could be the death of someone close to you.
It could be a change in the place you live.
Your change might have to do with your children leaving home or returning home, getting married, or perhaps the end of their marriage.
It could be a pregnancy or the ability not to be pregnant.
The changes each of us are going through can be as vastly numerous as the number of us reading this.
If you are going through something that is causing change in your life, I hope this quote resonates with you. I hope it helps you face it.
And when you face it, may you feel empowered, and may this change bring joy and enlightenment and peace to your life.
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi
This is great.

Jodi,
All I can say off your wonderful quote is that in my opinion: Change is good and in our it happens for a reason. Sometimes it is self-induced and at other times it is beuond our control. However change comes in our lives, we need to confront it, embrace it, svcept it and run with it to reach our full potential and destiny. Luv Gary

Provocative book. I listened to it on audio as well last year. The readers are excellent. Great discussion book especially in the current political climate.

Thanks for your wonderful words of encouragement, Jodi. It sound so simple that we need to face change and respond to it, yet I suspect that many folks, including me, find change to be really tough to deal with. Ruts can become really, really comfortable and it’s very easy to deny that change is necessary. As one of my friends commented when I once was talking about “thinking outside of the box,”–“But I like it inside the box. I am used to it.” Sometimes it takes time to face up to change and all we can manage is a tentative half-step in a new direction. It may not be much, but it’s a start.

Great quote …. and so much said in 2 simple phrases. The decision making/choice/motivation etc issues reminded me of the book ‘Who moved my cheese?” which, to me, provides a classic answer to the question “Why should I change?”

Jack and I know that you will weather this change. A door has closed, but a window is found open. Your blog has opened this window. You have a business, you have developed your artistic talents-watercolors and writing. I see this Jodi more than the other Jodi. Open that window wider💕
We love Jodi❤️❤️❤️

I had coffee yesterday with two dear friends who went into the career change tunnel at the same time (and from the same launching pad) as I did. That was over a year ago, and they are in such good and rewarding places now. And, I realized on the drive home, so am I! I hope your time of change ultimately brings richness and growth, Jodi. thinking of you!!! (And I love the quote. That’s a keeper.)

“The Other Jodi” as Benjamin calls her. Jodi Picoult’s book “Small Great Things” is a fantastic book. This quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. : “If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.” was the inspiration for the book’s title and appears in the book. Definitely, words to live by. Change is an inevitable part of living, some can be good and some not so good or easy to accept. I leave that to the wisdom of Socrates : “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” Might I add, “Jodism’s” are excellent wisdom too! Thank-you!

Oh Ellen! First of all – how do you know SO MUCH!?!? Love how you knew about the title of the book – makes such great sense!
And……….. the Socrates quote!!! I must say – this is really really really what I needed to hear. Beginning today – this is my new attitude and my mantra! Thank you for this amazing gift!
What a special gift you are to me dear friend!!! Thank you again and again.
Love and hugs to you and my Benjamin ❤

You are too kind! Throughout my entire life I have been an avid reader of anything and everything. I read, in the “other” Jodi’s newsletter, about the book title’s origin even before I read the book. The MLK,Jr. quote was already known to me from his Civil Rights Movement and these words inspired me immensely. The Socrates knowledge is a gift from my Father. The convolutions of my brain are cluttered with bits and pieces of both useful and useless information…that I sometimes manage to share at just the right moment! You are always welcome to them.

First of all, I wish I was a Gary, but instead I’m more of a Mike! So I needed your quote from Jodi P book, and the one from Ellen, and the things you said in your blog. Looking at it from so many facets of perspectives. IAlso, I thought your flower was spot on for the subject matter, so many facets in that bloom, and some are aging and fading in color, some are vibrant, but they are all experiencing change… Concerned for you, but didnt want to ask, figured when you sorted it out, you would probably share whats been happening & the reason for your ” trying” week. What a bessing to have so many here respond in support & caring, and provide a glimmer to possibly see thru to the otherside of change. Maybe your next calling is to run for President…. Lord knows we need someone who values family over war, and someone who actually says the truth & checks facts. Sorry, Nevermind, I wouldnt wish that kind of life on you. But its outside the box thinking. I just know if you put out what you would want to the Universe, you’ll make it happen!

Go to UTube & search. For a documentary on a a Doctor. Film name is ” Slomo”. His life totally opposite of yours. Maybe you’ve seen it, it been out several years if so watch it again. It’s interesting and you never know where ideas and creativity come from. As it is, your talents include Writer, Publisher, Artist, Painter, Card Maker, Professional Photographer, Chef, Party Planner, Organizer, Problem Solver, & thats just from what I’ve seen, in my short time. That doesn’t even cover you actual Career Experience, Education etc. Good luck on your new adventure, I’m sure it will be news worthy.
