Don’t Stop Working for It

Pine Squirrel in the Spring Snow – Mars, PA – April 7, 2018

If you
can’t stop
thinking
about it,
Don’t stop
working
for it.

This little cutie is an American Red (Pine) Squirrel that hangs out in our back yard with the birds and other bigger squirrels (and chipmunks and turkey and deer and Charlie of course).  These little squirrels only stand about 6 inches tall, being just a bit bigger than a chipmunk, and weigh about a half of a pound (200-250 g).

Saturday morning, we awoke to another Spring snow with two or three inches on the deck railing.  This little bugger was not giving up on his quest to get to the (ahem) “bird” feeder for breakfast.  I caught him burrowing full force through the snow that was taller than him when on all fours, but he was determined…. and he got there.

He reminded me not to give up and not to stop working on what we want and where we want to go.

Thanks little buddy!

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

  1. This adorable little fellow must have heard “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” – Joseph P. Kennedy. I tend to adhere to Stephen Hawking’s advice : “When the going gets tough, the tough take a coffee break.” Benjamin LOVES the Red Squirrel “playing in the snow, just like me!” When it was snowing here last Friday, he patiently watched and waited for awhile. Soon…”Gem, I have to go out right now and do my happy dance in the snow” and that is just what he did, with snow falling all over him! Thank-you x 2!! P.S. This delightful post, for some reason, did not show up in my inbox. I waited and waited because I knew this was coming. I decided to check yesterday’s post and found access to today’s. Happy dance!

    • Oh dear – I sure messed up on this one somehow! Thanks for checking in on him. Does Benjamin have a recommendation for this little guy’s name? And guess what – it is still snowing here – LOL! I’m not exactly happy dancing like Benjamin – but I keep enjoying the beauty of it – thinking every time it will be the last 🙂

  2. When I showed this photo to Benjamin yesterday, he said “he is such a Pip-Squeak!” That is what I often call Benjamin and he calls most little things pip-squeaks too. Before getting him ready for preschool this morning he wanted to come and visit “My Jodi’s pip-squeak”. When I read your comment to Benjamin, the immediate response : “tell My Jodi to call him Pip-Squeak!” You may call this sweet fella whatever you choose, but I’m certain that he will always be Pip-Squeak to Benjamin! Thank-you x 2!!

    • A quick P.S.! At Benjamin’s Uncle Dustin G’s (my Son) house there are two little red squirrels that spend lots of time sharing the bird’s feeders. They call them “Rough” and Reddy”! They also have a black squirrel, I never saw one of those before.

      • Benjamin wanted his Mommy to see Pip-Squeak too! We came back again, much to his delight. It seems that I incorrectly spelled one of the names. They are “Ruff and Reddy”! She knows this because on the concrete birdbath that contains ears of dried corn and other squirrelish delicacies there is a sign stating “Property of Ruff and Reddy”. I suppose this is to notify the birds to keep to their own feeders. Good Grief…in my defense, I do not recall that sign being posted at our Easter celebration. Then again, the steel trap of my mind seems to have a lot of open windows these days! P.S. It also appears that neither of us can recall the black squirrel’s name. Should you be interested, I will find out.
