  1. Beautiful photo Jodi. Totally agree. Darkness can really open ones eyes to beautiful things that would otherwise be missed. Case in point….. the other night I caught a glimpse of two bunny rabbits playing in the grassy field together in the darkness and really enjoyed watching them hope around having fun. Tried to catch it in a video on my cell, but too late to capture it. Oh well..

  7. Stunning photo, at times black and white speaks more loudly than color. Your thoughts contain so much truth and depth. I have a little magnet that has these words : “Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” – Martin Luther King, Jr. This was found during a very dark period in my life. I’ve kept it to never forget that the darkness contains it’s own gifts and possibilities, you just have to look for them. Thank-you!

  12. Benjamin and I want to share this special day with you : April 12th. is National D.E.A.R. Day…Drop Everything And Read to honor the celebrated author, Beverly Cleary. You may already know that it is celebrated on her birthday, this being the 102nd! My daughter’s were very fond of her Ramona series beginning with “Beezus and Ramona”. Ms. Cleary once said that “children should learn that reading is a pleasure.” I echo that statement. I believe that reading should be just like breathing…a natural event. Enjoy a book, or two, with your sweet Granddaughter!

    • Thanks for letting me know! I’ll try to get her to read with me. I keep trying but she isn’t very patient with books yet. I loved Be early clearly growing up! Does Benjamin have a favorite book?

      • Some suggestions for you based on my Gem experience with Benjamin : Board books have more pictures and less words, they also are more durable for wee ones and are great beginning. We still read many of his board books. We started with all the puffy covered Sophie the Giraffe, that endured reading and chewing, then on to Sophie’s regular board books. We also loved Carolyn Jayne Church’s books that are beautifully illustrated by her : Ten Tiny Toes, Good Night I Love You, I Love You Through and Through,etc. among many of her holiday themed books…eventually to her Potty Time book before even starting that process! Sandra Boynton’s board books are still loved : The Going To Bed Book, Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs, Dinosaur Dance among numerous others. There are many others, but these come to mind first. One of our very favorites, that is a must have : God Bless You & Good Night by Hannah C. Hall. Another must have : Klaus the Mouse, he has read this over and over and still loves it. I think that Benjamin’s first favorite was Good Night Moon, I read and he chewed his way through two of them in his first year and a half! We always had a routine of reading before naps and bedtime. Books at bedtime continues to this day. We have at the advanced age of 4, expanded our library to include everything about anything. Benjamin loves books and I, not so humbly, take much of the credit for this. Keep trying!

      • Absolutely not!!! I so want to read with my little cutie! She is such a busy one though and doesn’t allow more than a minute or two to look at books! lol! Hopefully someday! Her daddy is a voracious reader!!

  18. Yes, they absolutely do! And I love the photo….what a great reminder not to give up hope when our world seems to turn so very dark. Often, that is just the “dark before the dawn.”
