Cascade Green Pumpkin Watercolor.
Who said pumpkins have to always be orange???!!!
And… What watercolor artist doesn’t adore playing with
Daniel Smith’s Cascade Green?!
Mix it up with a little Quinacridone Gold and a bit of Sepia for contrast and Voila!
I love all the shades of green and blue and yellow and brown and black created with the granulation of these pigments in this combination!
It was a fun pumpkin to create!
I’m excited to be one of the artists featured at one of our local town’s Sip and Stroll events this Thursday evening in Zelienople, PA.
I have the great honor of being invited by my friends at Boutique 16063 – an amazing women’s boutique with the sweetest owner and team that making shopping there so much fun and make you feel like a million bucks when you walk out!
I’ll have some prints of this painting there and some cards (as well as a great selection of some of my other watercolor originals and framed prints as well as copies of the two children’s books I wrote and illustrated, Klaus the Mouse and Lucas the Lucky Lion).
The original of this painting is available through our McKinneyX2Designs Etsy Shop or at Berry Vine Gifts in Bradford Woods, PA.
If you are local, I hope you will sip and stroll by on Thursday, September 19th between 6-9pm!
There will be lots of great beers and wine to choose from, food to eat, artists to explore, and great shoppes open to browse and shop in.
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

It’s a good thing I don’t live close to you. I would be poor. Your art is just….my favorite.
Question…do you sketch at all before you paint? (Watercolor, another “I wish I could” thing). 😉

Lol. You know you can still get some 😉🤣. I did not sketch anything before painting this. Just swooped the paintbrush and wished for magic 😉

You have magic then. No doubt. Wait, does that make you a witch? 😁

This is a lovely unexpected surprise discovered amidst my inbox! I LOVE this Pumpkin!! Your watercolor pumpkin has a very special, if unintended, connection to a project that has become near and dear to my heart. This Daniel Smith Cascade Green watercolor pumpkin appears very much like the blue-green shade of the pumpkins used in the Teal Pumpkin Project. This is a now trademarked project from FARE – Food Allergy Research and Education. The Teal Pumpkin Project is raising awareness of food allergies and promoting inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season. Back in the Fall of 2012 Becky Basalone, the founder/director of FACET – Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee, decided to paint a pumpkin teal and place it on her doorstep to signify that that there were safe treats for children with food allergies. Teal being the color of Food Allergy Awareness made it the perfect choice. Her idea blossomed and since trademarked by FARE has spread all over the USA, also into Canada and Britain. I have had a Teal Pumpkin on my porch and special non-food items to hand out since 2017. I encourage others to do the same. Thank-you!

Lots of things to comment on:
1. Congrats on sip & Stroll
2. Lovely pumpkin painting! Love to change up colors too. Don’t do it often enough. Love thoose curley brush marks, got to learn how to do those. What brush do you use to make them ? Is it a stiffer brush? Fun & lovely anyway.
3. Pumpkin looks fabulous framed! i’m guessing that is your studio? Anyway your gallery around the easil looks beautiful & and that rug you have below it all is gorgeous! Love it.
4. Just as a side note, because I find it funny odd, each photo of your pumpkin seems to be a slightly different color. Not complaining or anything just found it odd, even though I may know why in some cases. Just hit me funny thinking I wonder which one is closest to Cascade green ? Haha, sorry you know me with color.

Thanks! The first one is the truest color. Great observation! The framed one is at our shop and I adjusted lighting to brighten up the whole picture. The card picture is taken in a light box surrounded by black and taken with iPhone.
I just use a small rigger brush ( not stiff at all ) for the squiggles and move loose and quickly. ☺️

I love the green on this pumpkin! And you’re right, they don’t always have to be orange. Personally, I always like to put a white one out, or even better, the ones that seem to be a shade between orange and white. But for the painting, I’m glad you chose green. One of these days, I really hope I can come to one of your displays and see your art in person. I have a feeling I’d be leaving with quite a lot of it, too!

Namaste, My Jodi! It’s me, Benjamin. This is an awesome pumpkin painting! I love the colors, it is like one of Gem’s, ‘cept hers doesn’t have gold on it. But you know I love orange pumpkins bestest, right? And your pumpkin is special cause it’s teal. Gem told me about them when I was little. Gem tells lots of peoples cause it’s important to know. You get Two Thumbs up and 10 Gold Stars! They are the bestest ones. I miss you and Charlie. You get a humongous neckbuster hug and zillions of kisses too! I love you! Bye and thank you!

Hi Benjamin Buddy! I do know you love orange best, so hope you find a beautiful, bright, plump one this year to carve. What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Charlie and I are doing well. I’ve been very busy at work, so not much time to write here. Always so good to hear from you! Hugs and kisses back to you and Gem!!! ❤
