Watercoloring Week 4

watercolor cat tails

I’m trying to work at getting “looser” with my watercoloring.

I surely have a long way to go, but I am having so much fun in the process.

This hibiscus flower and the cat tails were more tutorials by Lindsay @ The Frugal Crafter.  If this is something you’ve thought about trying, Lindsay really breaks it down into manageable projects.  Hers are so gorgeous and effortless.  I cannot wait to get to that point.  For now, I try – and I enjoy.  Learning to loosen up while drawing and painting.

I’ve watched a few other YouTube tutorials, but so far Lindsay’s have been my favorites.  If you know of others, please do share and let me know.

It is so amazing to allow myself to put pencil to paper again. To brush water on it, and then add paint and watch it spread.  I wish I could describe how glorious it feels.  This last one was just kind of a random time time filler while I was waiting for another to dry.  I was just using the colors and trying to be loose.  It is supposed to be the view I could see from my deck while I was painting (LOL!).

Yesterday was so gorgeous…  I started out the day with a long walk in the morning (with my camera and a friend) followed by a bit of gardening, then some relaxing and painting on the deck.  The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing – temps were in the high 70s.  It was simply divine!

Oh – and I was notified that my “Oh Happy Day” card was chosen as a winner in both challenges I entered Friday  The Paper Players and Can You Case It!  Woohoo! How awesome is that?!?  🙂

And then… a sweet friend let me know she was cooking and baking some of my recipes, and she and her family loved them.  YAY!  Lori made the Raspberry Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chicken Caprese Lasagne, and Poppy Seed Cake.  What a way to make a great day even greater – eh?!

I hope you are finding time to do things you love this weekend.

Cheers & Hugs,

Jodi

    • Thank you Cynthia. Sometimes I struggle with whether to post as I know it is not great art, but I really want to journal the journey, watch the process, and hopefully encourage others to explore things even if you are not expert or just a beginner like me, so I greatly appreciate your encouragement. 🙂

      • It’s nice to have pretty things to look at on our WordPress Reader – sometimes, I am just playing with color and like to post my doodles. Laura says art is in the eye of the beholder. Let’s put it out there!

  2. Congrats! What a week of winning that you had with your pics and your recipes! You deserve it! I love cat tails, and you did them well. Wish I could smell the hibiscus in your painting 🙂 and you will laugh at the last one. I saw it before I read what it was supposed to be. Now remember I am NOT a early morning person, so not always reading or seeing right. I looked at your pic and thought to myself OH she painted the inside of a fish tank with 3 fish inside! People put fake trees in fish tanks, ok so they may be a little smaller and there should be more blue if it was a fish tank, but hey it made me smile when I saw it 🙂 Have a great day! Yes yesterday was a lovely day here too! we were outside a lot!

  3. First congratulations re your cards, I’m not at all surprised that you won! You’re very talented.

I think your paintings are great. I needed a smile this AM, and these paintings did the trick! I like the last one the best, because it came from you. I could tell it was trees, and I think they’re beautiful! I’m amazed at how fast you’re progressing, and I’m really glad you’re enjoying the journey, and sharing it with us!!

  4. You are progressing so quickly. I’m impressed. A lady of many talents. I stayed up late last night to complete another watercolour assignment for The Year of the Spark – an on-line year long art course by Carla Sonheim and Lynn Whipple. For this one we had to listen to music and draw and paint a floral still life to the rhythm of the music. Talk about being loose and so much fun.

  5. All your paintings are so lovely! It IS fun to watch the watercolors run and blend together, isn’t it?! Reminds me of mixing cookie dough in a way and then after it comes out of the oven, everything blends together into a perfect, yummy delight! Keep creating Jodi! ❤️💜💚
