on April 3, 1982,
a 19 year-old girl
said “I do”
to a 23 year-old boy.
They didn’t know
how quickly time would fly
creating a life together
experiencing love together
raising a family together
growing old together.
Today, a 53 year-old girl smiles
at a 57 year-old boy
whose eyes still twinkle
when she gives him a winkle.
One of aging’s most precious gifts
is our eyes growing bleary
causing us to look with our hearts
at those we love
and see the beauty
that radiates from within.
We don’t see the wrinkles.
We just see the twinkles
that can only be viewed
from the experience
of a lifelong love.
Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Oh my, what a sweet verse and such a charming and innocent image…and so young! Warmest congratulations to you and your love, may the years to come be filled with continued blossoms of love, peace and togetherness. Happy Anniversary!

Thank you Debi! I’m teasing hubby calling him Paul tonight! I had never thought of it until you said, but YES, he kinda did! Now, however, a whole different story! lol! Still a cutie, but in a very different way to my bleary eyes ๐ And YOUR eyes are bleary calling me totally enchantingly beautiful – but thanks all the same! My grandma bought my dress and I loved it – $200 total. ๐

giggling… your grandma was sweet, back then $200 for a dress was a lot. Then. its cool too, your dress’ style the sleeves and veiling were quite like my own dress.
And, my eyes, most surely were not blurry! you were a lovely bride ๐

Thanks sweetie – just know it is not always “happy.” Not every day is great, but there is something great in every day, and we must cherish those moments. No life is perfect nor a fairy tale, so try not to delude yourself into thinking so you will not be disappointed. Marriage is wonderful. It is always work. I have told people there are good and bad days, good and bad weeks, good and bad months, and even good and bad years, but if you are committed and love each other, it is so worth it. Wishing you many happily ever afters!

In a reply also you ooze poetic charms!! Jodi, you are a sheer delight ๐ I actually read this a couple of times and was smiling the entire time through it ๐ I totally agree that it is a mixture of good and bad and not rosy days all throughout. Yes it does require a lot of work, and many of the “endearing eccentricities” you fell for your in your partner comes across as “irritating idiosyncrasies” a few years down the lane ๐ But I still believe it could be a fairy tale ๐ After all fairy tales have their share of sadness as well, but the endings are what defines them to be a “fairy-tale” ๐ Like you said, sticking to one another through thick and thin and not letting the love diminish even when lust takes its toll, can very well give the fairy-tale ending to everyone’s love story ๐ Thank you for your wishes and I hope years later I can craft something like you did ๐ Definitely not a poem though, I am really bad at that. Something else maybe ๐
