Rustic Barn Weddings

Gable farm Matted

Gable Farm in Watercolor – 10×14

It’s June, and wedding season is in full swing!

Rustic barn weddings have become very popular in our area.  As a matter of fact, our son and daughter-in-law had a barn wedding three years ago next month.   I had fun creating this watercolor version of Gable Farm, which was their wedding site and a place they have now turned into a venue for others to hold their weddings and receptions.

Colleen has been busy stocking our McKinneyx2Designs Etsy Shop with fun rustic wedding signs made from reclaimed pallet wood.  They are super reasonably priced from $10-14.

Wouldn’t these be great little accents for a rustic barn wedding?

Wedding Day for a Perfect Pair

CJ Candace Wedding Card hello life simply wonderful bird punch

It’s wedding day for C.J. and Candace!  (You might remember photos from Candace’s shower a few weeks ago.)

I couldn’t wait to make a special card to celebrate these two cute lovebirds.  They are a Perfect Pair.

My youngest son is a groomsman in the wedding, and we are looking forward to celebrating this special day.  Nick and C.J. were “roomers” in college and have remained good friends.

CJ Candace Wedding Card hello life simply wonderful bird punch 2

Candace is a country girl at heart and their wedding has a rustic theme, so I loved using some leftover burlap ribbon and lace from Jake and Colleen’s (my oldest son and daughter-in-law’s) wedding two years ago for this special card.

I had recently seen Dawn at Petals. Paper. SimpleThymes make a twine wreath and loved the look.  Thanks for the great idea to CAS Dawn!  (You’ll be seeing another card next Sunday for The Paper Players Challenge #262 using this twine wreath too on a completely different card).

I used the StampinUp Bird Punch for the leaves and love birds and the Hello Life Stamp Set to heat emboss the “love” sentiment in gold.

Looking forward to celebrating love today!

Cheers & Hugs,

Jodi

Perfect Pairs Wedding Shower Gift

Perfect Pairs Wedding Shower Gift Basket

Yesterday I shared the beautiful celebration of this adorable and perfect pair,  Candace and C.J. at the bridal shower I attended for Candace this past weekend.

And, as promised, here is the “Perfect Pair” gift basket I made as my gift for them.

perfect pair wedding shower gift chip and dip bowl

It was so much fun trying to think of perfect pairings to include in this gift basket.

perfect pair wedding shower gift chips and dip salsa

I am sure there are so many more pairs you can think of, and you can customize the gift for your “perfect pair.”

perfect pair wedding shower gift cutting board and knife

Some things are simply practical, and others I found on Candace’s gift registry.

perfect pair wedding shower gift salt and pepper

Does anything “pair” better than peanut butter and jelly?

A pair of gloves just made perfect sense.

I also had fun creating all the pear/pair tags with a variety of watercolor wash colors…

perfect pair wedding shower gift fork and spoon

and thinking of little things that would make their home cozy and special.

perfect pair wedding shower gift candle and light

Pen and paper… will they scribble little love notes?  create shopping lists?  wish lists?

A fun bag or basket pulls it all together and adds to the fun and practicality of the gift.

My First Jewish Wedding

KAG 1

On July 4th, Hubby and I went to our First Jewish Wedding.

Thanks to our dear friends, Pam and Glenn, who we met 17 years ago on a plane to Puerto Rico, we have learned and experienced so many wonderful traditions and celebrations in the Jewish culture.

Pam (who we fondly refer to as “Bub” or even more affectionately “the Bubster”), has exposed us to and invited us to join them in bar mitzvahs (both of her sons and her dear hubby), bat mitzvah (their daughter), Passover (with family and friends), Chanukah (gifts and foods and cards), and now, one of the most beautiful wedding ceremonies we have ever attended.

KAG 3

We have watched Kyle grow into an amazing young man, and we have fallen in love with sweet Anna along with Kyle.  Theirs is a love that was destined to be despite the difference in religious backgrounds.  You see, Kyle is Jewish and Anna was raised Catholic.  (Much like Pam and Glenn where Pam was Jewish and Glenn was Catholic).  The wedding ceremony for both, however, was a Jewish ceremony.  This was a Reformed Jewish Temple and Ceremony as opposed to Orthodox, so I’m sure there may be many differences that I am not educated enough in the religion to discuss.

But I thought I would share what a beautiful ceremony Kyle and Anna celebrated and the deep, beautiful meaning behind the symbolism.

KAG 4

The structure that Kyle and Anna stood under on the altar – along with both sets of parents, Best Man and Maid of Honor – is called a Chuppah.  The chuppah symbolizes the first home for the new couple.  It is open on all sides to welcome family and friends who will support the couple as they begin their life together.  It was beautiful to hear them recite their own, hand-written, very personal and very endearing vows to each other.

KAG 6

The heart of the Jewish wedding ceremony is The Seven Wedding Blessings.  Themes of joy and celebration and the power of love are expressed while the number 7 reminds all of the seven days of creation.  The first blessing begins with Kiddush and the final blessing culminates with the image of the community singing and celebrating with the bride and groom.

kAG 7

Anna and Kyle created a very special Ketubah in a photo of the two of them with many special words on it.  Ketubah means that which is written and was an ancient contract – written in Aramaic (the language of the time) – as a guarantee of monetary compensation in the event of the dissolution of the marriage.  In present day, the Ketubah represents emotional love, trust and commitment to one another.  The Ketubah is signed by the couple and witnesses prior to the actual wedding ceremony.

KAG 8

The Kiddush is the blessing over the wine.  The first cup symbolizes the cup of life to be shared together.  This blessing is combined with the ancient betrothal part of the ceremony.  Laurel Barr, the Officiant of the Wedding, who was also the cantor for Kyle’s bar mitzvah over a decade ago, performed the ceremony in such a sweet and humorous and personal way that all of us there could not help but share in the joy.

KAG 9

I loved how the whole ceremony involved both families the entire time culminating with hugs and prayers,

KAG 10

and wrapping Kyle and Anna in Kyle’s bar mitzvah prayer shawl.  It truly brought tears to my eyes.

KAG 11

And, of course, the ceremony concluded with the ancient tradition  of breaking the wine glass.  The meaning of this is somewhat controversial.  One common explanation is that breaking the glass is a symbol of the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.  Also, the shards of glass are plentiful, and this can represent the hope for abundant happiness in life.

KAG 12

The long-awaited kiss was welcomed with cheers and tears and smiles.

Here is the happy couple.

KAG 13

And our dear, sweet Bubby and Glenn ❤

KAG 14

followed by Kyle’s sister, Ally,

KAG 15

and brother, Bryan.  All smiles as they joyfully welcome our beloved Anna into the family.

KAG 16

The reception was so much fun!  We were immediately greeted with a SWEET candy bar featuring bowls full of favorites,

KAG 17

and take-out containers for midnight snacks.

KAG 18

Though there was no cookie table as is tradition in our Pittsburgh/Mars region, there were plenty of sweet treats between the candy

KAG 19

and the beautiful cake and pastries.

KAG 20

We had a very special table.  The BEST table at the wedding!  Table #14.

Table #14 featured a picture of Kyle at 14 years old (as well as one of Anna on the other side at 14).  This was the year our families had a Football bet between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, who were vying in the playoffs for the Super Bowl position.  The family bet was that whoever’s team won had to send all their team’s paraphernalia they owned (sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, towels, etc.) to the other family – and that family had to wear it to work and school one day that week.  Well, our dear Griffith family lost – but they sure had fun with it.  In fact, they made us a complete album of photos with each of them wearing their Steelers shirt or hat in school, with their class mates, with their work friends, even a family photo of them “mooning” us in their shirts!  (You’ll have to visit to see that one!)

This one at Table #14 was Kyle pretending to flush our sacred Steelers Terrible Towel down the toilet!

KAG 21

It was fun to watch them do a traditional Hora chair dance where the groomsmen carried each of them up high and everyone danced around them.  Kyle recorded the whole thing with his GoPro.

KAG 22

And we all hooped and hollered!  And I danced well beyond 20,000 steps on my FitBit that evening!

KAG 23

The day after, Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom just happened to show up at breakfast in coordinating black and white chevron outfits – and matching smiles!

KAG 24

And when I expressed to the family that this was our first Jewish Wedding, Anna, the new bride, said,

“Me too!”

We smiled and hugged.

Jodi and Marty KAG wedding 0715

Thanks for letting us be part of it dear Griffith and Genova family!

We love you!

Cheers & Hugs,

Jodi

A Wine Basket of Firsts – Bridal Shower Gift

wine bridal shower gift 3

I had a bridal shower to attend this weekend for the future daughter-in-law of one of my besties.

I thought it would be cute to make a wine basket gift of “firsts.”  I had seen these before and thought they were cute for couples who already have most of the “basics.”

In a large tin beverage bucket, I put a box of 4 red wine glasses, a box of 4 white wine glasses, a cork screw, and 6 different bottles of wine with fun names to celebrate some milestones and firsts.

The first one is Champagne (actually Prosecco) for “The Wedding Night.”

The next one, Entwined, is for “The Honeymoon.”

wine bridal shower gift honeymoon bottle
For “The First Fight,” I thought a bottle of LOL!!! was fitting.

wine bridal shower gift first fight bottle

To toast at “The First Dinner Party,” I provided a bottle of HobNob.

When “The First Anniversary” rolls around, a bottle of Two Vines can be shared.

And if they are blessed with “The First Baby,” a bottle of Menage a Trois can be enjoyed.  (and if they want to use it for something else, I just don’t need to know about it!)

Anna and Kyle’s wine rack is now stocked.  Bring on the wedding!

April Showers – Celebrating with Charrie

cw 1

You might remember I shared the card & gift wrapping I made for our family friend’s shower yesterday.

Well, today I invite you to experience a little “taste” of the shower.  Charrie and her mom and the lovely hostesses gave me permission to shoot away and then share here with all of you.

The weather was sunshiny perfect, the hostesses smiles were just as bright, Charrie was beaming, and the details were amazing.  Enjoy the little visit to the party.

And you may notice I was completely slightly obsessed with the petit four and cupcake display! 🙂  I can’t wait to get the petit four recipe, and if successful, share them with you here.  They were TO DIE FOR!  (I know hubby will love them!  Layers of raspberry and apricot yumminess!)

Add to that blueberry pomegranate sangrias, pickled marinated asparagus, chicken salad, fresh fruit kabobs, and chocolate galore – oh my!!

Here is the lovely bride to be with her sister and maid of honor.  Aren’t they beautiful?

‘Tis the Season

charrie shower card artisan embellishment and hello life

Tis the season…

For showers and weddings that is.

And you might know I love a good theme.

charrie shower invitation
So when I received this invitation to our family friends’ shower, I thought it would be fun to repurpose some of it for the card I made.

I gently removed the lace bow and added it to the card I created with vanilla and kraft card stock, a tiny watercolor, and the SU artisan embellishment floral cutout.  A simple “love” sentiment was added from the SU Hello Life Stamp set.

charrie shower card artisan embellishment and hello life

I then continued the theme when wrapping the gift.

Charrie Wedding Shower Gift Wrap 1

Instead of wrapping with paper, I used burlap which can be repurposed and was from our son and daughter-in-law’s similarly-themed shower and rehearsal dinner.

I made a big bow with some new kitchen towels that were on the registry, stuffed in a couple wooden spoons (they go with the gift inside), and tied it all together with lace to match.

Off to the shower today to celebrate Charrie and Corey and wish them many years of love and happiness.

Cheers & Hugs,

Jodi

PS  I received a very sweet note and invitation from the HUGELY talented Leslie Mahon at InkPaperScissorsStamp.com to enter my card into The Paper Plunge #29 April Showers Challenge.  It is a less-known challenge that I am super happy to learn about and participate in.  For my card crafty friends – hope you will check it out.  If you have created a baby or wedding shower card, take the plunge and play along with us!

TOUGH MUDDERS!

What an amazing weekend we had!  Starting with Jackie’s Wedding (#mrandmrskallis) on Saturday, and ending with watching both our boys, Jake and Nick (along with Nick’s best friend Jon and his sister Kelly, and Jake’s friend Matt and his brother-in-law Jason) form a team and a bond participating in the TOUGH MUDDER Competition on Sunday.

This post will be filled with photos taking you through the event from start to finish from what we were able to see as spectators.

It was such an awe-inspiring event!  (In fact, after hearing the pep talk and pledge at the Start Line, Marty had tears in his eyes, and Rob was ready to jump in and join them!)

Marty and I (with Jake’s Colleen and Nick’s Liz, our Joyce and Rob, Matt’s wife and Jason’s fiancé) covered quite a few miles ourselves following our TOUGHMUDDER team to the obstacles we were allowed to get to.

Enjoy the romp through 10+miles up steep hill treks and obstacles that included such craziness as #ArticEnema, #BallShrinker, #WalkthePlank, and #ElectroShockTherapy!

Tough Mudder benefits the Wounded Warrior Project, and it has raised approximately $3 million to support thousands of warriors returning from the battlefield providing combat stress recovery programs, adaptive sports programs, benefits counseling, and employment services. And these are only a few examples of the programs offered to injured veterans! These programs and services aid in brave Americans’ transition from service-connected injury to civilian life. A team of Wounded Warriors participates in every Tough Mudder event, just to remind everyone what the definition of the word ‘bad-ass’ really means.

Tough Mudder is not a race – it is an event geared toward personal challenge and teamwork.  It is not about getting a faster time than your buddy, but helping your buddy achieve success also (and did we ever see that on the course all day!)

I sure am proud of our boys and our team as well as all of the participants in this challenging event.  Enjoy the visit to TOUGHMUDDER Nation with my guys.  #GlobalMudder
