Rooty the Rooster

Rooty the Rooster Watercolor 6×11 140lb Saunders Cold Press

There once was a rooster named “Rooty”
(which is the chicken language version of Rudy).

He married a chick named Judy,
to the envy of the coop –  his great booty.

He took very serious his duty
of handsomely being a beauty.

He sang a fine cockle doodle dooty,
which made him even more of a cutie!

To some he appeared a bit snooty,
because he could be so darn moody.

but in truth he was just a tad fruity,
which saved him from being sent to the zooey.

Phew..ey!!!

This is one of a series of fun animal watercolor paintings and rhymes I am pursuing.
See the others:
A Rare Hare with Flare
A Duck Named Chuck
A Fawn at Dawn

PS – Rooty the Rooster is dedicated to my “CreativeLifeinBetween” follower friend Ellen “Gem” and her 3-year old grandson, Benjamin.

This watercolor painting is, in part, inspired by the wonderful, whimsical oil painting work by Roz at drunkencows.

A Fawn at Dawn Watercolor 6×10 140lb Saunders Cold Press

A fawn
I named John
was on the lawn
at dawn.

I yawned,
turned the lights on,
and like a phenomenon,
he was gone.

The beauty of nature
and new life
never ceases to
amaze me
no matter how often
I witness it.

Morning memories…
Cherishing the moments…
at life in between.

Just a quick little fun splashing some paint on Saturday afternoon in the sunshine after awaking that morning to the sight of two fawns on our front lawn.

A Rare Hare with Flair

A Hare with Flair Watercolor 8×10 Saunders Cold Press

I found some time this past weekend
to splash some paint.

Once again inspired by the genius of
 Andrew Geeson’s loose watercolor painting,

I painted this
rare,
bare
hare
with flair
that I dare
to share
if you care
to stare
or glare.

The House by the Lake

The House by the Lake in Black and White Nostalgia - Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park - May 2017

The House by the Lake in Black and White Nostalgia – Lake Arthur, Moraine State Park – May 2017

I’d like to spend a day
in this house by the lake.

I’d spend some of the time
roaming the rooms

Looking and listening
and smelling and touching

Imagining the stories
of the occupants through the years.

I’d spend some of the time
on a reclining chair in the lawn

Watching the sailboats and fishing boats
and birds and fish and wildlife of the lake

Imagining the stories
of its occupants through the years.

I’d like to spend a day
in this house by the lake.

After the Rain

After the rain
the world is a little softer –
edges blur and drip and shimmer.

After the rain
bright, beautiful reflections are illuminated
through droplets like liquid mirrors.

After the rain
the earth smells of growth
and life and freshness and hope.

After the rain
my heart feels renewed
and cleansed and full of new possibilities.

After the rain.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Your visit is so brief….
but your memory lingers,

and it is ceremoniously revived
each Spring when you surprise me yet again.

Lesson from a Cardinal

Lesson from a Cardinal.

You stand out so bright and beautiful and bold.
Do you realize the joy you bring to the cold?

You teach us life lessons without even trying.
May we be bright lights without even trying.

Help us to see
how easy it can be.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Its Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature!

Its Not Nice to Fool Mother Nature!

Alright….
who tried to slip
Mother Nature
some Chiffon margarine
in place of butter?

Woke up early this morning
knowing it was coming…
the weather people
kept telling us.

But to see daffodils blooming
and tree buds bursting
in a haze of green
against a blue sky
and warm, sunny breeze
just yesterday…

and wake up to this –
albeit splendid beauty-
this morning…

Someone had to have tried to
fool Mother Nature!

A Ghost in the Tree

the

A Ghost in the Tree
(A bit of Silly… Poetry)

Do you agree
with me?
Do you see
a ghost in the tree?

On a carefree
walk of sightsee,
it caused a teeny
bit of anxiety.

But Charlie in his chivalry
helped me gain clarity
and guaranteed
it was but a tree.

Such pedigree
to disagree
and decree
it must be too much coffee.

It was a beauty.
Could it be
a chickadee
or chimpanzee?

Whoppee
and Yippee
for a tree designee
of imaginative jubilee!

Jodi

The Road Taken

It was all a Blur

winter-oak-leaves-february-19-2017-mars-pa

It was all a blur…
until I looked closely.

I stopped and closed my eyes,
and I took a deep breath.

I exhaled slowly,
and then I opened my eyes.

And there it was…
I saw the beauty.

Jodi
