Smack in the Middle of Winter

Smack in the Middle of Winter

The sunrise was beautiful
that mid-February day
when Charlie and I went
on an early morning walk.

And the sun just shone brighter,
and the sky turned bluer,
and the air grew warmer,
until it reached a sunny 68 degrees!

A record was set that caused
the robins to sing and the breeze to gently whisper.
It encouraged the daffodils to pop out of the ground,
and the earth smelled like Spring.

Charlie snoozed on the porch,
and we opened the window
while we painted and pounded
wearing light t-shirts.

It was a beautiful Spring day…
smack in the middle of winter.

Spring or Fall? A Seasonal Paradox

Red Autumn Leaf on Rusty Spring - Mars, PA

Red Autumn Leaf on Rusty Spring – Mars, PA

Spring or Fall?

The things you find on an Autumn walk
that resonate with your thoughts….

Like the old rusty box spring
that has been sitting for years

against a pile of well seasoned cut and split firewood
on a path I pass frequently on my walk.

It sits there as if its purpose
is purely to create artistic beauty

A paradox…
a contradiction.

Just like a crazy 74 degree November day
in the little town of Mars, PA.

Is it “Spring” or is it Fall?

The End of the Rainbow

rainbow

An unseasonably warm day in February this week
started with bright sunshine,
drenched us in refreshing rain showers,
and ended with the brightest, most colorful rainbow.

Right in our very own back yard.

If you cannot find me,
look deep in the woods
amidst the moss and twigs and fallen leaves.
I’m searching for the pot of gold,
dancing and celebrating with the leprechauns.

It is the Season of Magic.

March Came in Like a Fluffy White Lion

March Lion 2

From the front porch – the shrubs are nearly buried in fluffy whiteness

March Lion 3

Even this weeping cherry tree is barely above the snow piled up near it from clearing the front sidewalk

March Lion

There really ARE shrubs under that pile of fluffy whiteness on the other side of the front porch railing

March Lion 5

I never tire of this sunrise view from the back deck – no matter the season

march

or watching views like this… Mr. Cardinal clearing the snow off the seeds while Mrs. Cardinal waits patiently

If March came in like a lion in Mars, it sure is a beautiful fluffy white one!

And Bonus…. if legend has it right, it will go out like a lamb.

Looking forward to daffodils and tulips and crocuses and forsythia and all the delights that Spring brings, but for now…

I’m still enjoying March’s majesty.

Jodi

Walk with My Camera

pittsburgh 11112014

Pittsburgh, PA 11/11/14

Yesterday – NOVEMBER 11, 2014 – it hit 70 Degrees F (SEVENTY DEGREES!) here in Pittsburgh, PA!  That is simply unheard of, and surely broke some kind of weather record.

But, alas, today it is dropping, dropping, dropping and currently 39 and continuing down.

Not that this is meant to be a weather report – really!!!  blah blah blah. But still – YOWSERS – it sure made an already great day even that much more glorious!

I was downtown on business, and was OH SO LUCKY to have the opportunity to have a spare half hour to just walk down along the river front of our beautiful city of bridges and take a few photographs.

As I angled my camera to capture the bridge, the water, a few of the building across the way and the beautiful blue skyline, I noticed the homeless man sleeping on the sun-warmed dock.

It made me pause – – –  so grateful for this beautiful day – – – for him.

Cheers & Hugs,

Jodi
