The Fragility of Life

bird silhouette on window

Oh beautiful bird
please be careful.
The reflection you see is deceiving.
The imprint you leave so haunting.

This photo is of a window in our breakfast nook where a bird recently hit, but survived (as far as we know).

I often look at it – –  and see
what looks like
angel wings…
or a spirit…
a symbol of flight…
a symbol of freedom….
a reminder of
the fragility of life.

Jodi

Autumn Weekend Wandering

mcconnells mills 101715

McConnells Mill State Park, Lawrence County, PA – 101715

Rocky trails,
a rushing creek,
earthy smells of Autumn pines.

A churning mill,
a covered bridge,
sunshine, clouds, a slushy sleet surprise.

Laughter and love,
reminiscing and remembering,
moments to cherish always.

An Autumn weekend afternoon
wandering with
one of the besties of bestie friends.

Nothing is ordinary
nature is EXTRAordinary
when we cherish life in between.

Happy Place in the Fog

foggy fisherman conneaut lake

Foggy Fisherman, Conneaut Lake, PA, 10/2015

Peace and joy can be found
even when things seem foggy.

Trust your heart, your gut, your “happy place,”
and things will become clear.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

I captured this photo on a recent trip to Conneaut Lake, PA. We were walking to a friend’s house for breakfast before the Fall Festival Parade and our Krautfest Celebration. The fog was thick over the lake, and there was a nip in the air. Within moments, the fog cleared, the sun broke through, and the day became happy and warm and beautiful. The fog, however, was magical and beautiful and couldn’t stop this fisherman from enjoying his “happy place” on the lake.

Beyond the Boundaries

Boundaries…

sometimes you have to break them.

Like yesterday…

Hubby and I went on a Sunday drive to Franklin, PA to the Annual Franklin AppleFest.

It was lovely….  crowded… lots of arts and crafts, food, antique and classic cars…

But the real treat of the day was on our ride home.

The road said, “No Outlet – Turn Around Here.”

Hubby knew better…
and we drove on…
beyond the boundaries.
And we came upon scenes like this.

Sometimes you have to break the boundaries.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Seasons of Change

wilting sunflower

Fading sunflower at daybreak – Conneaut Lake, PA

Night fades to day –
the moon retreats as the bright sun rises.

Summer beckons Autumn’s reprieve –
when green becomes yellow or orange or red.

Flowers shrivel and wilt –
creating seeds of new life before they fade.

People wrinkle and shrink and age –
transforming the definition of authentic beauty.

Eyes blur and squint and fade –
erasing the wrinkles but not the sweet memories.

Seasons of renewal,
Seasons of hope,
Seasons of growth,
Seasons of age –

All of these seasons
are seasons of change.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Reflections

New Orleans City Park Sculpture Garden

New Orleans City Park Sculpture Garden Bridge

Am I reflecting joy when I smile at a stranger?
Warmth when I give a hug?

Am I reflecting peace in the words I speak?
Hope in the words I write?

Am I reflecting friendship in my actions towards others?
Beauty in the cherished moments of the day?

Am I reflecting love in the way I live my life?

May I wake up each morning reflecting on the small impact I have on a great big world.

Cherish the moments.

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi

Connected

connected storm drain NOLA

Sidewalk Storm Drain Grate, Warehouse District, New Orleans, LA

No beginning…

No end.

Infinitely intertwining the past, the present, and the future,

the physical and the spiritual…

all plants and animals and minerals.

Eternally merged…

Continuously connected.

Life.

I recently captured this close-up photo of a storm drain grate on a sidewalk in the Warehouse District of New Orleans.  It was beautiful!  So much lovely architecture and  structural elements in NOLA!  It reminded me of the Celtic Knot and the inter-connectivity it represents.  This week’s WordPress Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge is ‘Connected’.  I had to share this photo.

Orange you Sweet?

How do you know when you have one of the best of besties?

Answer #1,743:  When she brings you flowers… just because… even though she abhors cut flowers.

I sure have a best bestie!

Wishing you a best kind of weekend.

Jodi

WordPress Daily Post Photo Challenge:  Today was a Good Day

All Toads Welcomed

I love visitors.

We often refer to our home as a “bed and breakfast” because our doors are always open, and guests are always welcomed (and hubby makes a mean breakfast too!).

But last week when I opened the door to step outside, this little guy decided to come in.

I shrieked!

He scurried….
under a piece of furniture in the corner of our great room.

What to do?

I grabbed hubby’s back scratcher to get him to move…

Then – once in view – I had to grab the camera!   (He was so obliging to pose.)

After our little photo shoot, I rustled up a red solo cup to capture this little visitor…

I squirmed while he hopped inside the cup, and I tried to figure out how I was going to get him out.
A little index card and a scurry to the door to set him free…

Oh the things we find beneath our feet some days!

Cheers & Hugs,
Jodi
